Once Again, Amelia Gets Kudos from Magazine Readers

Amelia Island has been voted No. 8 among the “Best Islands in the Continental United States” by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine, one of the most popular travel publications in the world. This is the fifth consecutive year Amelia Island has made the magazine’s “World’s Best Awards” list, now in its 28th year.

The No. 8 ranking puts Amelia Island in excellent company, joining other notable destinations such as the Golden Isles, Georgia; Mackinac Island, Michigan; and Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

“Travel + Leisure’s savvy readers have once again voted Amelia one of their favorite U.S. islands, which is high praise for our welcoming residents and the hard-working hospitality community that delivers unforgettable experiences, year after year,” said Gil Langley, president of the Amelia Island Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This kind of recognition reinforces our commitment to sustainable tourism, ensuring the island’s award-winning natural beauty and resources are preserved for the next generation of Travel + Leisure readers and other conscientious travelers.”

The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, one of the island’s top-rated resorts, was also recognized by the readers of Travel + Leisure, being voted No. 13 among the “Best Resorts in Florida.”

It is nice to have the recognition, but let’s remember why people like this place. It is because of so many trees, the clean and uncluttered and relatively unpolluted beaches, our canopy roads, our pedestrian-friendly downtown, and our friendly people. We don’t need more people here, we just need to keep what we have.
