Habitat to Break Ground on a Mini-Community

Nassau Habitat will break ground for its 2024 build “Berkman Place” on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, at noon. The public is invited to join Nassau Habitat and the family to honor David Berkman and view the future site of four new affordable homes at 811, 813, 815 and 817 S. 11th St. located between Hickory and Indigo Streets.

Berkman Place is part of Nassau Habitat’s goal to build six affordable homes per year for deserving families by 2026. The 2024 construction project will offer four three-bedroom homes in a landscaped mini-community to qualifying applicants.

Nassau Habitat is extremely grateful to Betty Berkman for her benevolence and very generous support to the families in need of affordable homes in Nassau County.

David Berkman was a well-known local philanthropist who was a long-time advocate for affordable housing. His family describes him as “a very loving, kind, generous, caring man. Being able to donate to Nassau Habitat for Humanity in his memory to make this possible, would make him very proud.”
