Fernandina Beach City Clerk Caroline Best reminds city residents that by approving Resolution 2018-28 at their March 6, 2018 Regular Meeting, the Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC) has set the Qualifying Dates for the November 6, 2018 City General Election to run from July 9, 2018 through July 13, 2018.

Two seats are up for Election this fall: Group 4, currently held by Commissioner Roy G. Smith and Group 5, currently held by Vice Mayor/Commissioner Len Kreger. Both incumbents have announced that they will seek reelection to a second term.

There will also be a Straw Ballot Election for Mayor. The sitting commissioners not up for re-election are eligible to express interest in serving as Mayor. Potential candidates include current Mayor/Commissioner John Miller as well as commissioners Philip Chapman and Chip Ross. Historically the FBCC accepts the will of the electorate and formalizes the winner of the Straw Ballot as the next mayor.

City residents who are considering seeking office may find additional information on the Clerk’s website.
