Former Vice Mayor Joins City Manager Applicants

By Mike Lednovich

Former Fernandina Beach Vice Mayor Len Kreger has joined nine other applicants for the vacant city manager position.

Kreger confirmed by voicemail Thursday that he has submitted his paperwork to executive search firm Colin-Baenziger to be considered for the position.

“I think I have a one in a million chance,” Kreger said. He added he is serious in his effort to serve.

Kreger served seven years as a city commissioner, four of those as vice mayor of the city.

During his tenure on the city commission, Kreger also served on The Northeast Florida Regional Council, eventually becoming chairman of the group. He also served as the city representative on the Tourist Development Council for several years.

Kreger lost votes to become mayor three times in 2016, 2017 and 2020.

A retired U.S. Marine, Kreger is actively involved in community youth organizations and minority support groups. He is an avid supporter of the environment and wildlife, particularly in the protection of sea turtles and beach dunes.
