‘Shop With Cops’ Chili Fundraiser Will Be Nov. 9

The 11th Annual Chili Cook-Off Competition, benefiting the “Shop with Cops” program for Nassau County Sheriff and Fernandina Beach Police, will be Nov. 9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harris Teeter plaza, 4800 1st Coast Highway.

Sponsored by Keller Williams Realty, the competition helps support the Shop with Cops charity event, which pairs children — chosen by guidance counselors at Nassau County Schools — with officers who treat them to a day of Christmas shopping for clothing and toys in December. The officers respond to kids’ wish lists but also make sure they are getting new clothes and other necessities.

Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at the Keller Williams office on the plaza for $15 (cash only). Every ticket includes a taste of each chili contestant’s offerings and one voting ballot —  plus a full bowl of chili, with corn muffin, beverage, and dessert. All proceeds go to the Shop With Cops program.

So what is the “Shop With Cops program”? Might be nice to know what the money is going for.
