Nassau County School BoardAs a result of the passage of House Bill 7069, the earliest starting date for schools in Florida is now August 10, effective immediately. In addition, the bill amended section 1003.621, F.S., to require Academically High-Performing School Districts to conform to the uniform opening date. The Nassau County School District had previously adopted a calendar for the school year 2015-16 using the waiver previously allowed the district as an Academically High-Performing School District. As we can no longer use that waiver, our 2015-16 calendar must be revised.

Two revised calendar drafts are posted on the Nassau County School
District website, www.nassau.k12.fl.us , [Or See Calendars Below] for parent and NCSB employee input. Please “vote” for A or B by sending an email to
[email protected] stating your preference.
Input can be taken up to Friday, May 1.

NOTE: The “A” and “B” labels on these calendars are
not related to the “A” or “B” used to identify two
choices during the original calendar input. These are both adaptations of
the calendar approved by the school board on 2/12/15.

Was this intended to be a test for parents to look at the two calendars and figure out the differences when a brief explanation of the two variations would have been helpful?

From what I can tell the key differences between the two options are:
Option B starts 1 day later (Aug 11) than Option A, but ends almost a week later (May 26 vs. May 20).
Option A only has two non-school days around Thanksgiving (Thursday-Friday) whereas Option B provides non-school days the entire week.
Spring break and Christmas holiday duration and timing appears to be the same although in Option B the Spring teacher planning day (no school for students) is the Friday before the Spring holiday week giving families an extra weekend of holiday time. In Option A, the teacher planning day is not the previous Friday but in the week before that.

Only two days to get the word out to the public and vote is pretty minimal although I would hope that notices may have been sent home to alert parents of these two options and there is no date when this was posted on the NCSD website.
