Barnabas Thanks Community for Success of Empty Bowls Drive-Through Fundraising Event

Due to Covid-19 the 2020 annual Empty Bowls, a Barnabas event was a drive-thru Extravaganza.

This year’s 7th annual Barnabas Center Empty Bowls drive-through extravaganza was a tremendous success, thanks to the hundreds of generous event sponsors, donors, attendees, volunteers and participants. Barnabas was focused on keeping its Empty Bowls attendees safe along the driving route as they enjoyed entertainment, a delicious meal of soup from presenting sponsor, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, and a unique hand-painted bowl to take home.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser is a symbolic reminder of the many “bowls” in our community that still need to be filled for people who struggle with hunger or food insecurity. Barnabas is especially appreciative of the support of legacy sponsor, Baptist Medical Center Nassau, presenting sponsor, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island; and by a grant from the Delores Barr Weaver Forever Event Fund, est. 2015. More than 140 additional sponsors also made generous contributions to this event.

Barnabas supporters Jack and Charlotte Roberts created an event Challenge Fund grant, which gave event attendees the opportunity to match their $10,000 gift. Thanks to generous local donors, the challenge raised more than the match sponsorship.

“We are so grateful to our generous sponsors and awesome community members who participated in our Empty Bowls event,” said Liza Cotter, Empty Bowls Committee Chair. “We all had a great day outdoors enjoying delicious soup, entertaining musicians and a parade of happy Barnabas volunteers! Everyone felt so good supporting the dynamic work of Barnabas in Nassau County.”
