Like a phoenix, Writers By The Sea (WBTS), has arisen from the former Florida Writers Group of Nassau County. Welcoming writers of all genres and levels of experience with more than just a new name, the new organization offers a revamped format, and a new meeting place, day and time, monthly topics targeted to further every writer’s goals.

Meeting every third Thursday of the month upstairs at Café Karibo, 27 North 3rd Street, Fernandina Beach, FL, the Writers By The Sea’s 2015 planning committee has laid out a year’s worth of programs based on the input from writers in the area. Registration begins at 6 p.m. with networking and the opportunity to buy food and beverages in the restaurant to take into the meeting, if desired. The program begins at 6:30 sharp.

Each month’s program begins with a brief business meeting, followed by an insightful program centered on a topic of prime interest to area writers. The planned program may be followed by a critique session for those who wish to participate.

“Our purpose is to provide a forum for writers to achieve their goals, with writers helping writers,” says Nadine Vaughan Williams, the 2015 co-chairman of the planning committee. “Whether you need help writing dialogue, want support to finish your novel or non-fiction work, or need help publishing or marketing your work using the new technologies, Writers By the Sea is sure to have something for you.”

The group’s first meeting is set for Thursday, January 15, 2015, with the topic Critique Groups that Work. Facilitated by Nancy Blanton, author of the award-winning historical novel, Sharavogue, and 2015 co-chair of WBTS’s planning committee, Blanton will help the group decide how a critique group could serve them best, and whether they would like to help create a group they could love.

All meetings are free and open to the public. So, mark your calendar. Bring a friend and join with like-minded people in fun, fellowship and support toward achieving your writing and publishing goals. For more information contact, Nadine Vaughan Williams at [email protected] or Nancy Blanton at [email protected] for additional information. No advanced registration is necessary.
