How do you inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders? You give them the opportunity to put the knowledge they have learned in the classroom and apply it to solving real world problems.

This is the opportunity that the West Nassau Science Club Titan Tech Robotics Team has provided for students at West Nassau and Hilliard. The Titan Tech Robotics Team competed on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the First Tech Challenge River City Robot Rumble in Jacksonville. There were 23 teams from the Northeast Florida Region. West Nassau came in first place in the qualifying rounds, then they stayed in first position all the way to the Championship round for this competition where Titan Tech and their alliance won the championship.

The students had the opportunity to use their skills in the real world by developing the Titan Tech Logo, establishing the WestNassauRobotics.com website, create an engineering notebook, build a robot and program the robot for competition. The team coaches, Mrs. Siusta and Mrs. Braddock invested time and energy in developing this first year competition team. The team met for weeks on Wednesday afternoons, Saturday mornings and some Sunday afternoons to perfect the building of the robot and to use their computer programming skills to program the robot.

It is through the unwavering dedication of quality teachers, the support of the community and the hard work and problem solving of the students that WNHS Titan Tech Robotics Team took first position at the River City Rumble Competition.

Thank you to our sponsors: Exceptional Case Services, Inc., Double D Auto, Rockwell Collins, Watergate Painting and Décor, and the Nassau County Education Foundation for their support. If you are interested in donating or volunteering with Titan Tech Robotics, please email us at [email protected] and let us know how you would like to participate.

Congratulation Titans, Do you know, the First thing I noticed. The gals outnumbered the guys. My wife has taught college science and technology courses, and been involved in education, promoting female involvement in the sciences for over 30 years. Her biggest concern has always been the lack of females in the programs. I want to thank Mrs. Siusta and Mrs. Braddock, and their cororate. sponsors for a job well done.
