On a beautiful day, over twenty-five enthusiastic pickleballers gathered on  four newly constructed City of Fernandina Beach Pickleball Courts located in Central Park. Not all attendees were experienced players, and newbies to the sport were welcomed.

Pickleball equipment consists of short paddles, and a whiffle ball, heavier than ones used in backyard baseball.

The following information appeared on the City of Fernandina Beach Website.

“This “sport” is a combination of tennis and ping pong, played on a badminton-sized court with a net close to the ground, where players use paddles and a small wiffle ball. Find out more at www.pickleball.com.

Open pickleball is played at the Central Park Multi-Purpose Court, behind Tennis Courts #3 and #4 at the corner of South 13th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Four (4) pickleball courts are available.
