Whale Art

High tides and huge waves compromised the size of the right whale mosaic at Main Beach — but not the spirit of the crowd. Oyster shells a plenty and folks of all ages showed up to help raise awareness by creating a public art project in the sand.

Lauri deGaris is the educator, artist and marine biologist behind the concept. Fernandina Beach will be the host of next year’s Right Whale Festival.
