The Amelia Island Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution has tapped Ben Weiser as the 2019 Outstanding Teacher of American History. Mr. Weiser is a veteran of 20 years in the classroom and currently teaches American history at Fernandina Beach High School. His undergraduate degree is from Purdue University, and his Master of Arts in Secondary Education is from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Standing (L-R) with Mr. Weiser are Amelia Island Chapter Regent Lynn Leisy, Chapter Historian Rebecca Mayle, and Florida State DAR Historian Cindy Addison. This Amelia Island Chapter award led to his recognition as the Florida DAR Outstanding Teacher of American History. The state award will be conferred during the Florida State Society DAR Spring Conference in Orlando this March. The state award has automatically placed him in the running for the National Society DAR award.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is the largest women’s service organization in the world and contributes over one million volunteer hours a year. The approximately 200 members of the Amelia Island Chapter contribute 5,000 volunteer hours and $5,000 in scholarships and awards in Nassau County each year.
