U13 Amelia Island Youth Soccer’s competitive travel team came in first place this past weekend in the regional finals held in West Melbourne, Florida. Now they are headed to the state finals to be held on April 2 – 3 in Auburndale, Florida.
The team was formed after a series of tryouts. The girls range in age from 11 to 13 and play on the in-house Amelia Island youth soccer league prior to being picked for the travel team. Many of these girls play middle school soccer for their prospective schools (mostly Fernandina and Yulee) and play against each other during the middle school season.
According to Catherine Oliver, mother of player Evelyn Oliver, “We should all be proud of the dedication given to our kids by the Amelia Island Youth Soccer League. The league is run by an amazing group of volunteers.”
The U13 team is coached by two dedicated individuals who hand-picked the players a year ago. The coaches are James (Jay) Denison and Emilio Sanchez. Congratulations players and coaches, we are so proud of your accomplishment.
Congratulations on winning regional finals. Now, go forward and crush the State Finals. Go team Amelia Island! Yay!
Congratulations to the team, coaches and their families for their hard work in winning the regional finals. Best wishes as you move forward to the state championship.
