Townies Pizzeria presented a $500 check to the Amelia Island
Runners to help fund their three seasonal races: the Turtle Trot, the
Reindeer Run and the Ned Tyson Memorial Pirate Run.
“Besides being the best pizza on the island, Townies’ generous donation and
support allows the Amelia Island Runners to continue operating our three
annual running and walking events,” said Bill Pennington, AIR spokesman.
“We are dedicated to encouraging local families to engage in active and
healthy lifestyles as well as enjoying the community camaraderie achieved
through athletics. The sense of accomplishment realized by completing an
endurance challenge is the benchmark of our club.”
The Amelia Island Runners strive to provide activities, support and
encouragement to those who choose running or walking as a means for having
fun while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They support youth running
programs in the local schools, provide thousands of dollars in annual
scholarships and raise money for great local causes.
“We fully support the Amelia Island Runners’ mission to keep our community
healthy and active,” said Matt Klabacka, owner of Townies Pizzeria. “We
love that they choose to meet at Townies each Wednesday after their weekly
group run and we want to show them our appreciation in return.”
Townies is dedicated to supporting local arts, education, sports,
environmental programs, military veterans and first responders throughout
the Fernandina Beach community by giving financial support as well as in
kind donations. Townies Pizzeria is celebrating its most successful year in
business since its founding, as it is among the top 10 percent of American
pizzerias.
