Tours of St. Peter’s Historic Church Coming in April

Are you interested in Fernandina’s history and historic buildings?

Join a free 45-minute tour sponsored by the Foundation of St. Peter’s Church to learn about St. Peter’s parish and historic church, the “Jewel of Centre Street” on Thursday, April 4 at 5:30 p.m. or Sat. April 6 at 11 a.m.

Meet in the courtyard to the north side of the church, at Eighth Street and Centre, to hear about how the parish was formed in 1858, how it survived its great fire, unique facts about the cemetery, and when the parish integrated parishioners.

The talk will highlight the church’s historic architecture, stained glass windows that tell stories of early town founders and events, and unique carved pieces made from rare wood like curly pine. The presentation will conclude with music from the historic organ featuring 839 pipes ranging in size from 8 feet to a drinking straw.

This free tour is a great segue into dinner or brunch in our historic downtown. Please RSVP to Patty Lanier 904-261-4293 or [email protected] and let her know your preferred date.
