The reality of Nassau’s hunger problem

In Nassau County, over 13%, or almost 10,000 of our neighbors, are rarely sure how they’ll get enough to eat in the next few days. Over 3,000 of them are children.

Our ongoing hunger solution

Barnabas operates Nassau County’s largest Food Pantry and established the Hunger Coalition of Nassau, where we work with our partners to distribute yearly over 300,000 lbs. of food to our neighbors in need. Without such help, these families often go hungry.

The reality of Nassau’s healthcare problem

Uninsured, low income adults in Nassau have significant medical needs, but they have limited options for adequate care. They’re often forced to ignore controllable health issues until an emergency room is the only choice.

Our ongoing healthcare solution

Barnabas Health Services provides extremely low cost healthcare and dental care for our neighbors in need, integrating both primary and preventative services, improving their health and reducing the wasteful burden on emergency resources.

The reality of Nassau’s poverty problem

Many Nassau families are one paycheck away from crisis. Our community’s unemployment rate has dropped, but many workers have either stopped looking or are in much lower paid jobs than before. Their families’ personal resources are stretched beyond the limit.

The Empty Bowls solution

Empty Bowls is a grassroots, decentralized effort to combat hunger and all its residual effects. Barnabas brought Empty Bowls to Nassau County to help spread awareness in our community, to continue the battle against hunger, poverty and crisis, and to expand its mission of connecting people, help and hope. With your help, we’ll do just that.
