This is just a short note to say thank you to the City employees and Dale Martin, our City Manager for the professionalism, dedication and effort they exhibited before, during and after Hurricane Irma struck Fernandina.

As someone who, for over forty years, has been involved with State and local government (as an attorney for a political subdivision, counsel to and Associate Director of a gubernatorial commission, Regional Director of the agency that governed public sector labor relations, and as an arbitrator of labor disputes between local governments and their employees) I have witnessed the response to and the aftermath of weather related events impacting cities and towns that have affected thousands of people, albeit generally involving snow and ice. The response of this City’s employees has been extraordinary.

On a personal note, thanks to the guys working on 10th Street early in the morning on Tuesday who offered and provided assistance to me.

One of the many reasons Fernandina Beach is an exceptional place to live is the men and women we have employed to serve this community.

Absolutely, make that two TYs! And a Thank You to you, too, Adam Kaufman; this city/county is a better place because of all you do for us. And a special round of applause for The Observer!

And I want to thank the Observer for providing the best information while we were evacuated. The official sites were not nearly as helpful. We learned about the mandatory evacuation only through talking to a neighbor and had had to search hard to find confirmation. Your site pulls it all together very well. Thanks.
