On February 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Amelia Plantation Chapel’s Fellowship Hall a wonderful journey will begin! With the guidance of Chapel member Bill Hilles, Dickie Anderson and members of the Amelia Island Genealogical Society, participants will explore their family histories and gather the skills needed to record the treasures of the past. D. G. Martin, journalist for North Carolina’s Chatham Weekly, wrote, “Looking backwards some of us see our parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, cousins, friends, teachers, preachers … and the places we knew them… They are our foundations. They are our roots.”

During this class participants will reflect on personal life experiences, bringing clarity to misty memories of times past. Skills to prepare an accounting of these events will be developed and time will be allowed to share “your stories.” Your stories can be written as: first person narrative, a letter or poem, third person memoir, short story, essay employing your own experiences and thoughts or as an autobiographical account.

Each two hour session will be divided to allow time for instruction, writing and sharing your stories. Discussions of how to gather and organize material, where to look for clues, how to connect the genealogical dots and even a review of where to go for DNA information are included.

It’s never too late or even too early to write YOUR STORY or the story of a family member or friend you never want to forget. Join this class with a call to the Chapel. (904-277-4414) There is a modest $10 fee for this exciting adventure!
