Earning a college degree just became a possibility for many Nassau County School District employees. The District, working closely with Florida State College at Jacksonville, initiated the first steps to earning a degree for over 40 employees last week. Interested employees attended an informational session at Wildlight Elementary School where they heard from Dr. Burns as well as FSCJ leadership.

Participants received information on scholarships, grants, and other affordable college options. They also met with FSCJ counselors and had the opportunity to complete a college application. Six of the employees in attendance already had a four-year degree and received information about the path to earning a teaching certificate!

One of the focus areas of the district’s strategic plan is “Recruitment and Retention.” The district is excited to offer this program for employees interested in earning their degree and views this as a way to “grow our own” future teachers. Classes will be offered in Nassau County at the FSCJ Betty P. Cook Nassau Center.
