Attention Film Fans!

Learning to Skateboard

The opportunity to view what many consider “the cream of the crop” in short films, continues this year in Fernandina Beach, as the 10th Annual Oscar-Nominated Short Films Fest is set for February 2 at the Amelia Musical Playhouse [located at 1955 Island Walk Way]. Again hosted by Kate Hart, the festival will feature all 15 films nominated for Academy Awards for Short Films – Best Animated, Best Live Action and Best Documentary. One of the films in each category will be presented an Oscar during the Academy Awards program on Sun. Feb. 9.

Hart says the film festival she inaugurated and has hosted since its inception, is “a different kind of creative experience, one I have enjoyed sharing with the area’s growing film fan base, and the folks at Amelia Musical Playhouse continue to provide a gracious and enthusiastic venue.” Since the first Oscar-Nominated Shorts Film Festival in 2011, attendance for the festival has grown every year. “These filmmakers aren’t constrained by the demands of the box office. The short films are usually more compelling, more experimental in their storytelling, and more heart-felt than a lot of feature films. People really respond to them” Hart said. “In addition, the festival provides filmgoers the opportunity to see these films in the format in which they were intended to be viewed.”

The festival will kick off at 10:30a with the screenings of the five Best Animated Short Films, plus several animated films of note. The five Best Documentary Short Films will be divided into two groups: Group A will screen at 12:15p, and Group B at 3:15p. The Best Live Action Short Films will screen at 6:30p.

Admission to each individual screening session is $10; a Film Fan Pass [good for admission to one screening of each group— a total of four film sessions] is $32. Tickets and a limited number of passes are available for advance purchase Fri. Feb. 24 through Sat. Feb 1 at The UPS Store [located in the Fernandina Beach Publix shopping center]. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at AMP during the festival on Sun. Feb. 2.

Thank you so much! The films were just announced this past week, and the awards show was moved up by 2 weeks, which gave us a VERY short window for press and presentation. Appreciate your help in getting the word out! Kate
