A new charitable foundation has taken root at the Amelia
Island Plantation with its first project – an Earth Day Tree Planting.

Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort Managing Director Donald Stamets (from left); Martex Services Vice President Tom Livingston; Amelia Island Plantation Community Association Board of Directors President Richard Tufaro; and Amelia Island Plantation Foundation President Judith Pines plant a magnolia tree at Amelia Island Plantation on Earth Day, April 22, 2015. This is the first project for the new foundation, which will support projects that benefit residents and visitors to the south Amelia Island community.

On April 22, members of the Amelia Island Plantation Foundation Board of
Directors along with representatives from the Omni Amelia Island Plantation
Resort and Martex Services planted a magnolia tree at the southeast foot of
Cooper Bridge, which spans Florida A1A to connect the east and west sides
of Amelia Island Plantation.

This is the first project for the Foundation, which was launched last year
as a 501(3)c organization. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible,
and the Foundation can apply for grant funding on projects AIPF chooses to
support.

The Foundation was established to support charitable, recreational,
educational and environmental programs and projects that benefit both the
residents living on the Plantation and the public visiting the community,
Foundation President Judith Pines told residents who gathered for the tree
planting April 22.

“First and foremost among these is the protection and enhancement of the
local maritime forest canopy, marsh areas and other elements of the
physical environment,” Pines said. “So today, the planting of this magnolia
tree on Earth Day is a small first step towards fulfilling our commitment,
and it is symbolic of the nature and intent of the AIPF as an organization.”

The Foundation’s Planning Committee currently is developing a list of
projects that might benefit Amelia Island Plantation. The Foundation
welcomes input from the community as to specific areas of interest on which
to focus its attention.
