The Fernandina Observer welcomes the following businesses newly licensed to operate in our city last month. New local businesses appear below.
During November 2016, the city surveyed 299 permits, compared with 226 surveyed during November 2015. This activity brought the city $217,807 in fees. Permits were issued for 19 new buildings, 15 residential and 4 commercial. Five demolitions were also approved. In November 2015, 9 permits were issued for new residential buildings and no new commercial buildings.
Building permits for the first 11 months of 2016 are running ahead of last year, 3,269 to 2,756.

Noted that Scuba Station has moved from their rented space at Atlantic Recreation Center where they were generating more than $10,000 a year in revenue to the City to Amelia Park area. Penny wise and pound foolish due to one commissioner’s perspective that a public bid process that was followed to the letter was somehow tainted due to a city employee working at that business. At least they stayed in the City.
