Fernandina Beach local, Nathcelly Leroy Rohrbaugh, officially declared his candidacy via his website NathcellyforFlorida.com
“I am frustrated with the quality of political discourse today. Both Democrats and Republicans seem content to talk past one another and assume the other side is working with bad intent, said Rohrbaugh. “That is why I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Florida House District 11 seat currently occupied by Cord Byrd,”
A native of Nassau County, Rohrbaugh graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 2003 before earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Florida. He and his wife Danielle, along with their two children Sophia and Orion age 10 and 6, call Yulee home.
“After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, I knew I couldn’t sit idly by while our representatives offered thoughts and prayers, but did nothing else,” he said.
Rohrbaugh’s platform is ambitious, focusing on the needs of families in the state. From economic improvements, such as investment in Vo-Tech training and eliminating regulations that stifle small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs to development of affordable housing, his platform focuses on the steps to move Florida’s families forward.
Understanding changes to Florida’s environment impact both the economy and standard of living for citizens, Rohrbaugh supports investing in infrastructure to hurricane-proof our cities, protecting our aquifer from pollution and our coastline from rising sea levels, investing in a clean energy economy, and a ban on offshore drilling.
Most importantly, as a parent and deeply rooted member of the North Florida community, he understands the importance of investing in public schools, improving early childhood education, affordable college, and recruitment and retention of talented educators. Keeping children safe, especially in schools, is a top priority. Rohrbaugh supports restricting access to assault weapons, universal background checks on all purchases, and prohibiting individuals convicted of domestic violence from purchasing firearms.
“For too long, our elected officials in Tallahassee have neglected their obligations to the people of Florida,” said Rohrbaugh. “I’m here to work for all citizens of Florida.”
