Nassau County Emergency Management officials are in full preparation mode for staffing and resources in advance of Hurricane Irma. The Emergency Operation Center (EOC) will move to Level One tonight (Friday, 9/08) and begin staff
ing the EOC 24 hours a day at that time. Staff are busy fully staffing operations and logistics personnel and putting into place resources to provide Nassau County citizens as much help as possible before Irma makes it to the area as early as Sunday.

County officials have already ordered mandatory evacuations for Zones A, C and F beginning tonight at 6pm. To determine if you live in one of those zones, you can find a zone map on Nassau County’s Facebook page (NassauEM). Nassau County Director of Emerge ncy Management Billy Estep has already announced that shelters will open tonight at 6pm. Those shelters are:
Bryceville Elementary -capacity 125

Callahan Intermediate-capacity 325

Callahan Middle-capacity 528 Pet friendly

Hillard Elementary- capacity 325

Hillard Middle/Senior – capacity 155 Pet friendly

For Special Needs Shelter (Special Needs only) Estep reminds citizens to bring to shelters everything they will need, including medications, pillows, sleeping bags, hygiene items, favorite foods (in case of allergies), comfort items (books) and modest sleep-wear (there is no privacy). And for pets, secure crates, vaccination records, leashes, food, bowls and hygiene supplies, like baggies and litter boxes.

Estep says one question that already is being asked is when will the Shave Bridge be closed. Estep says that decision will come when sustained tropical force winds reach 35 mph measured at the bridge. To find the most up -to-date information about Hurricane Irma, citizens can access Nassau County Emergency Management’s Facebook page (NassuaEM), twitter account (@NassauEM) or call staff at (904) 548 – 0900.
