Misty Mathis

The Nassau County School District is pleased to announce that Misty Mathis has joined the Exceptional Education Department as their new Director. Ms. Mathis is starting her twentieth year with the Nassau County School District.

During her career in education, she has taught fifth, sixth, and seventh grades at Callahan Intermediate School and Yulee Middle School. A highlight of her seven year teaching career was when she was named the Nassau County Teacher of the Year in 2003. She has also been principal of two schools for the past twelve years, which were Bryceville Elementary School and Yulee Primary School. BES and YPS were named “A” Schools by The Florida Department of Education for ten of the twelve years that Ms. Mathis served as their principal.

Ms. Mathis is a highly qualified educator for this position. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and two Masters’ Degrees in Education and Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. As a lifelong resident of Nassau County, Ms. Mathis is proud to have attended kindergarten through twelfth grade in our local public schools. She sees her career in education as an act of service to her local community, and she will continue to strive for excellence for all students.
