Miss Shrimp Festival 2017, Savannah Ramsay, threw out the first pitch during Nassau County Night at the Jumbo Shrimp Baseball game on August 31, 2017. Scored on poise, personality, appearance, and general knowledge questions, the Isle of Eight Flags Miss Shrimp Festival scholarship pageant requires a strong commitment from the participating high school juniors and seniors from Nassau County, Florida. Sponsored by the Hampton Inn and Suites – Amelia Island Historic Harbor Front Hotel, General Manager Bob Ramshaw presented a $1,000 scholarship to the winner.

Savanna Ramsay is an avid supporter of middle and high school athletics. After Savanna graduates Fernandina Beach High School, she plans to attend the University of South Florida and major in biomedical science.

Nassau County Night included several members of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, and members of the Fernandina Pirates Club were in attendance handing out gold shrimp beads and even danced with the Jumbo Shrimp’s mascots, South Paw and Scampy, on the field between innings.

The 55th Annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, always held the first weekend in May, will be held May 4 – 6, 2018, with the popular Pirate Parade to be held on Thursday, May 3rd. The Festival is known for its family fun and entertainment including a variety of contests like the Best Beard, Little Pirates, and the Miss Shrimp Festival Pageant.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp have just finished what they called, “A new era of affordable family fun with the 2017 season, presented by Community First Credit Union, at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville”. After a short rain delay, the Jumbo Shrimp beat out the Pensacola Blue Wahoos with a score of 5 – 2 at the conclusion of Nassau County Night’s game.
