The City of Fernandina Beach announces that Ms. Mary Hamburg of Fernandina Beach has been appointed as the City’s Public Information Officer. Ms. Hamburg will begin her new duties with the City on May 1 following her transition from her current employer, Osprey Village at Amelia Island Plantation, where she has served as the Social Director for approximately six years.

The newly-created Public Information Officer (PIO) position will be responsible for developing and managing the City’s web and social media presence and serve as the primary staff contact for other media agencies. The PIO will also serve as the principal point-of-contact on behalf of the City for special events. Ms. Hamburg’s starting salary will be $42,000.

“Ms. Hamburg will bring enthusiasm to the City and lead the City’s effort to engage the community through methods and platforms that have been under-utilized. I expect that she will enhance the City’s efforts to disseminate timely and accurate information to everyone interested in city government,” said City Manager Dale L. Martin. Ms. Hamburg will operate under the immediate supervision of Ms. Nicole Bednar, the Administrative Services Manager, joining Ms. Cheryl Lilly, Grants Administrator, as part of the City Manager’s Office staff.

Ms. Bednar looks forward to sharing her lengthy City experience with Ms. Hamburg and welcomes her to City Hall.
