18 Scouts in Fernandina Beach Boy Scout Troop 89 earned 39 Merit Badges in 18 categories during a Court of Honor on Monday, March 27th at the First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach. 6 Scouts had Rank Advancements. Merit Badges help Scouts learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers as they earn Merit Badges. In keeping with the times the Boy Scouts of America have released new Merit Badges like Animation, Digital Technology, Programming, Game Design, Search and Rescue, Welding, Robotics, Geocaching, and Scuba Diving. Scouts must earn 21 merit badges from more than 100 available to earn the rank of Eagle.

Joshua Moseley attained the highly coveted rank of Eagle Scout, completing 45 Merit Badges. Joshua is the son of Rick and Barbara Moseley of Bryceville. His father, also an Eagle Scout, was given the honor of awarding Joshua his Eagle Rank. Joshua completed his Service Project at Cary State Forest in Bryceville where he performed over 300 hours of community service, including pressure washing a 1,500 foot board walk, constructing camp site benches, lantern posts, and installing masonry around fire rings and grills at 6 new camp sites.

Congratulations Joshua on your dedication and hard work to achieve this honor that less than 5% of all boy scouts earn. It will serve you well in your future. Great job!
