Jean Olbert, Regional Shorebird Biologist for Northeast Florida with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to speak March 10.

Jean Olbert, Regional Shorebird Biologist for Northeast Florida with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, will be the featured speaker at Wild Amelia’s next Wild Nite on March 10th beginning at 7:00 PM at the Peck Center Auditorium, 516 S. 10th Street in Fernandina Beach. Ms. Olbert’s presentation will cover the diverse array of migrating, wintering and breeding shorebirds which depend on Florida’s coastal habitat during critical points in their life cycle. She will also discuss the many challenges shorebirds face from lost of habitats, disturbance, and predation.

Ms. Olbert received her B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University and her M.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida. Her previous field experiences and past research projects have all focused on the ecology and conservation of avian species. She has worked with imperiled shorebirds and seabirds in California, endangered raptors in Florida, and the endangered Hawaiian goose in Hawaii.

Wild Amelia’s mission is to educate residents and visitors about the local bioregion and encourage stewardship of the area’s natural resources through events and programs that educate and entertain while promoting a conservation ethic. Wild Amelia’s educational programs are year-round, culminating in a three-day Nature Festival on a weekend in May—this year May 15-17, 2020.
