Industrial accident at Port of Fernandina claims one life

Editor’s Note:  The photo attached to the Fernandina Observer weekly is that of Jimmy Dubberly, candidate for OHPA.   Candidate Jimmy Dubberly is  the first cousin of the  accident victim.   We extend our condolences to the Timothy Dubberly family.

Police DeptAt approximately 0815 the Fernandina Beach Police Department and Fernandina Beach Fire Department responded to an industrial accident at the Port of Fernandina. An employee of Kinder Morgan was repairing a crane when an unknown event occurred that caused his control cab to separate from the crane and fall to the ground. The fall which was approximately 100 feet, proved to be fatal.

OSHA has been notified. Kinder Morgan Safety is conducting an internal investigation and making efforts to notify the next of kin.

Additional information regarding the fatality is provided by Kinder Morgan follows:

“It is with great sadness that we must report the Kinder Morgan family suffered a
fatality this morning involving a company employee at the Kinder Morgan Nassau
Terminal at Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Following notifications of next of kin, the employee has been identified as Timothy
Dubberly, 58, an electrician at the facility. Our thoughts and prayers are with his
wife and family. The company is providing grief counselors for employees at the
terminal and also seeing to the needs of Mr. Dubberly’s family.

Following the incident, regulatory notifications were made, and the company has
initiated an investigation.”
