Mr Hodges is a great guy who has done a great job as principal. His job as principal included leading a diverse workforce with diverse issues. Many of these issues require a great deal of HR knowledge. And who wouldn’t want someone with first hand knowledge of processes and procedures. I am pretty certain Mr. Hodges also holds a graduate level degree and certifications in administration. Who would you have preferred..?

This is SOP in education, reward a career educator rather than hire an experienced HR professional who would have less of a learning curve!

Seems like Al Johnson is the type that thinks business people should be running the education system.
