Governor appoints Ancrum to DOEA Advisory Council

Janice Ancrum appointed to the Florida State Department of Elder Affairs Advisory Council.

The Nassau County Council on Aging Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Governor Rick Scott has appointed Executive Director Janice Ancrum to the State Department of Elder Affairs Advisory Council for Planning and Service Area Four, which encompasses Nassau, Duval, Clay, Baker, St. Johns, Flagler and Volusia Counties.

The council serves in an advisory capacity to the Secretary of Elder Affairs and is charged with making recommendations to the Secretary, Governor, Speaker of the House, and Senate President regarding organizational issues as well as additions or reductions in Department of Elder Affairs duties and responsibilities.

“I’m honored to serve on this prestigious advisory council for the Department of Elder Affairs,” Ms.Ancrum said. “DOEA is the primary agency administering programs and services for senior citizens in our state. I am humbled to be in a position to advocate for the needs and concerns of seniors in our community and our neighboring counties.”

The mission of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs is to serve senior citizens as they live,contribute, and build legacies in Florida. With more than 4.9 million residents age 60 and older, Florida currently ranks first in the nation in percentage of its population who are senior citizens. The Department’s vision is to assist all Floridians in aging with dignity, purpose and independence.

That is wonderful and completely deserved! Ms Ancrum is an amazing woman with an incredible gift that makes people feel safe, secure and cared for. We are lucky to know her and are thrilled by this appointment!
