Capt. Jack Layton Bradley, Jr.
May 4, 1963 – April 2, 2017 Age: 53
Jack L. Bradley Jr., Captain, ret. Fernandina Beach Police Department, passed away at the age of 53, on Sunday morning, April 2, 2017 at his home; with his family by his side.
Jack was born and raised in Fernandina Beach, attended Fernandina Beach High School. He attended Lake City Community College and obtained his Law Enforcement Certification in 1987. He began his tour of duty as a police officer with the Fernandina Beach Police Department on January 26, 1995, after having served almost eight years with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
During his law enforcement career he served in every area of responsibility, to include patrol operations, investigative services, and administration. He was the Honor Guard and Field Training Officer coordinator, Police Auxiliary Corps liaison, Accreditation Manager and new recruit Driving Instructor for the Fernandina Beach Police Department. He further served the Nassau County Law Enforcement agencies by performing numerous ancillary duties.
Jack was characterized by coworkers as “a consummate professional.” He was extremely well-liked and respected throughout the community and he touched many lives throughout his career. He was dedicated to the law enforcement profession and was known and appreciated for his good humor and sharp wit.
Jack enjoyed fast cars (especially his IROC Z), was an avid fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt. He was always available to friends in need.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Layton Bradley Sr.
In addition to his law enforcement family, Jack leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Constance Bradley, daughters, Christina, Maggie and Missy, his mother, Frankie Dungan Bradley and two brothers, Scott and Alan.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at The Journey Church of Fernandina Beach on the Amelia Concourse.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, at the church, from 9:00 am until the hour of the service.
