At the urging of Fernandina Beach City Commissioner Len Kreger, the city issued a Proclamation at its August 16, 2016 meeting expressing appreciation to all the “law enforcement officers who wear the badge and are selfless public servants putting themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and ask that all citizens join me in giving these dedicated professionals the support and appreciation they deserve.”

While Mayor John Miller signed the Proclamation on behalf of the city, Kreger read and presented it to Fernandina Beach Chief of Police Jim Hurley and Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper, who were surrounded by many of the men and women who serve and protect the local community.

Kreger said, “With all the hate and discontent in this country, I wanted to make a point that our community strongly supports our law enforcement.” Kreger delivered the Proclamation to a standing ovation from a packed City Hall audience.

I want to commend our law enforcement agencies. My introduction to the City Police a few years ago, was a pleasure. Lakewood gets huge amounts of Children on Halloween Eve. Just a safe environment for “the trick or treaters” The area is also patrolled by our Cities Finest. That Night, the Patrol Car stopped in front of our House to talk to a group of Kids, Why? To hand out Candy. I thought, Wow, that’s totally different than New York. Thank You.
