April 14, 2017 11:00 a.m.

Plan for Egans Creek Park located along Atlantic Avenue

Information provided by 8 Flags Playscapes and City of Fernandina Beach

8 Flags Playscapes, Inc., a local non-profit, in partnership with the City of Fernandina Beach is proud to announce the opening of the new Egans Creek Park on April 29, 2017, at 4:00 p.m.

Community Volunteer Day–April 22nd 9am to 3pm– will be an opportunity for residents to come together and help complete various “odds and ends” tasks still needing to be finished at the park, such as landscape installation, painting, pressure washing, and general cleanup. People of all ages may participate.  Children are welcome as long as they can pitch in to help. Visit www.8flagsplayscapes.org or call 904-476-3366 for more information and to sign up to help. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The mission of 8 Flags Playscapes is to enhance the community through the development of recreational environments that are universally accessible to all. The new Egans Creek Park features an accessible ¼-mile walking trail with fitness stations, accessible fitness equipment, a meditation labyrinth, an accessible fishing dock, and an accessible kayak launch. Additionally, a large pavilion, accessible restrooms, and gazebos have been constructed at the park. To further enhance the space, a significant focus on the landscape design of the park included planting twelve Southern Live Oaks and a number of native species of plants placed in gardens throughout.

The city of Fernandina Beach and 8 Flags Playscapes invite you to be a part of this special occasion to celebrate one of Amelia Island’s newest treasures.

Congratulations to 8 Flags Playscapes and the City for this wonderful upgrade to Egans Creek Park. As well as all the volunteers and the businesses that donated their time and resources. I know the park will be used by residents and visitors alike in all sorts of ways.

You know that we’ll be there to help, but more importantly to give you our sincere thanks for bringing this park to fruition! This is the very best park we have ever seen and the fact that you made sure that it is universally accessible to everyone is the icing on the cake! We believe that this will be the busiest place in town to enjoy!
