Prior to fleeing the island’s last tropical storm, Tom Orr created a “Driver Alone” form to place on the front passenger seat of his car. In the event of an accident or medical issue, first responders can quickly inform his designated emergency contacts.
Since Tom’s idea is a good idea for anyone traveling alone, we thought we would share his form with our readers.
Driver Alone?
On front passenger side of automobile, place a letter sized paper that shows your I.D. or Driver’s License at the top. On lower half of paper, list two or three numbers to call IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. First responders will act quickly on arrival.
Form
Letterhead or Driver’s License
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
Name of 1st Responder Cell Phone Number
Name of 2nd Responder Cell Phone Number
Name of 3rd Responder Cell Phone Number
Editor’s Note: Tom Orr, born in 1925, retired and moved to Amelia Island in 2000. Following graduation from the New York Maritime College, he served as a deck officer. In 1946, Tom sailed for United States Lines to Australia and Pacific Islands.
In 1957, Tom purchased a “Ask Mr. Foster Travel Service,” which became a 40 branch travel operation headquartered in New York. Tom sold his business in 1972. He continued his career representing a Washington, D.C. firm that held GSA contracts and covered a territory from Maine to New Jersey as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Also during his career, Tom was a stock broker with Merrill Lynch when the Dow Jones average was at 300, and was an automotive and refrigeration manufacture’s representative in the mid-west. He currently resides in Osprey Village.
While a good idea, I think it would be better to enclose the information letter inside an envelope and somehow attach to the front seat (non-marring tape) when the driver is solo. Have personal information such as a driver’s license and other peoples contact information in plain sight could be obtained by someone with less than lawful intent.
What a Great Idea & loved hearing about the interesting life led by Mr. Orr.
Great idea, Tom! You are always thinking. I think Dave Lott’s comment above is worth incorporating into your plan.
