The Amelia Island Plantation Community Association (AIPCA) will begin construction January 2, 2019, on a new, two-story, 11,230-square-foot community center for this storied residential resort community.

Construction will begin in January on the new Amelia Island Plantation Community Association (AIPCA) community center. The new, 11,230-square-foot facility is expected to open before the end of 2019.

The $3.8 million project will be built on the site of the previous 4,456-square-foot Property Owners Club, originally built in 1986 as a golf facility, which was demolished this month.

The centerpiece of the community center’s 6,845-square-foot first floor will be an upscale casual community “living room” where members may gather and relax with neighbors. It also will feature spacious multi-purpose rooms to host a variety of community and member events.

An expansive outdoor seating area is a key part of the project and will take advantage of the site’s splendid views looking both south and west over the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort’s Oak Marsh golf course, the marsh and on to the Amelia River.

“This is an exciting project which will enhance daily life in the community, allow for expanded community activities and engagement, and support property values,” said Association President Dr. Jeff Packer.

In a unique initiative, the new facility will include an unfinished second floor for current storage and future growth, providing the community significant flexibility to meet potential demand for additional space with no disruption to use of the first floor and no expense to retrofit the facility to add a second floor.

“It’s a testament to the confidence our membership has in Amelia Island Plantation that they supported this strategic investment in our future,” said Packer.

Basham & Lucas Design Group is the architectural firm for the project. Dicky Smith & Company is the general contractor.
