Fort Clinch

Frank Ofeldt is a Historian, Author, and Park Ranger. Starting as a volunteer in the Fort Clinch Living History Program in the mid 80’s as a drummer boy, Frank progressed to other positions in the program. After college, he began a career with the Florida Park Service having served 24 years. He is currently an avid researcher, reader, and collector of American Militaria. Frank is a past president and board member of the DLCHS and Past Board Member of The Amelia Island Museum of History, also serving as co-chair of its Veteran’s History Project, in which he still involved. He is a Master Mason of Amelia Masonic Lodge and currently serves of the board of directors for the Florida National Guard Camp Blanding Museum. He has appeared in the PBS series Florida Crossroads, The History Channel and on CNN. His first of two books, titled Fort Clinch will be released on 9/18/17 as part Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America Series, with a second book on Fort Clinch to be released in the fall of 2018.

Frank will cover the construction of Fort Clinch, including time frame, materials used and who was involved in the building of the fort and the role the Fort played in protecting the waterways of Amelia Island.
