Board of County Commissioners weighs in on proposed development at Amelia River Golf

A Letter to City Commissioners
From Board of County Commissioners
Justin M. Taylor, Chair
June 27, 2019 10:00 a.m.

Dear Commissioners,

We have been made aware of a proposed development at the Amelia River Golf Club which would include a resort, event space and race track. We realize that the proposed project is under the sole discretion of the City of Fernandina Beach, however many Nassau County residents have reached out to our Board expressing their opposition to the project due to potential noise pollution, loss of tree canopy and the effects on wildlife.

We know first-hand how challenging it is to uphold a property owner’s rights to build and expand while also trying to do make decisions that please the tax payers. As you consider the proposed project, we trust that you will consider the impact to the island and the concerns of the residents.

Sincerely,

Justin M. Taylor
Chairman, Board of County Commissioners

This is very encouraging. Perhaps our City Commissioners can respond-in-kind with a letter to the County Commissioners regarding the proposed development on the south end of the island and implore them to consider that impact on our island and the concerns of the residents.

Cooperation between City and County is tantamount to zoning and land use in each jurisdiction.

I like the way the way the Chairman of the County Commissioners Justin Taylor thinks about this
terrible developmental project for the island residents. This proposed project should be STOPPED immediately. I fear that if this project is approved this may lead to some violence and this cannot be allowed ever on our precious island.
