On Wednesday, August 31, the First Presbyterian Church will present a free concert featuring classical organist Michael Leyk and his father, blues guitarist Wolfgang Leyk. Both will be traveling here from Erlangen, Germany, to present this exceptional music program.

Michael Leyk attended the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, where he first studied church music with Edgar Krapp and Bernhard Haas. Currently he studies organ with Harald Feller and has taken master classes under famous organist Daniel Roth and others. He regularly plays the Rieger organ at the Jesuit Church of St. Michael’s in Munich and performs in organ recitals throughout Germany. As a soloist and conductor, he has worked with many professional orchestras and choirs in Bavaria; he has also performed for German Television and the Bavarian Broadcast.

Wolfgang Leyk is a pastor for the Lutheran Church in Bavaria and a university lecturer. He plays guitar with blues and soul bands, and has toured Europe with his own blues band. He has also toured with Louisiana Red, who played with Albert King and Muddy Waters; Chicago Soulsinger Alex Exson; and blues singer Kate Daniels. Two years ago he was an invited guest at the St. Marys, Georgia, singer-songwriter festival, and is a regular visitor to Amelia Island.

The concert will be at 6:30 p.m., August 31, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 9 North 6th Street, Fernandina Beach. Parking is on the street and there is a special-needs accessible entrance.
