Update: Missing & endangered African American man has died

 

Update from the Fernandina Beach Police Department:

“Sadly Mr. Jones was located outside of the City Limits earlier this evening after having passed away. The NCSO and Medical Examiner’s Office are working together to determine the details of his passing, but at this point foul play is not suspected.
PRAYERS FOR THE JONES FAMILY.”

The Fernandina Beach Police Department is currently searching for a missing endangered adult, Johnal Jones, 77 years of age.  Mr. Jones may be experiencing conditions consistent with early onset dementia and a medical condition that could pose additional danger to his health. 

On Sunday evening, September 27th, 2020, Mr. Jones was reported missing by his wife.  The couple resides at 521 South 9th Street, Fernandina Beach, FL. 

Mr. Jones was last seen walking in the 400 block of South 9th Street around 9:30 PM on Friday, September 25, 2020.  

Mr. Jones is 5’9”, 170 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair that is balding on top.  He was last seen wearing a grey baseball hat, grey pullover shirt and dark blue jeans.  Mr. Jones has a scar on his right cheek and abdomen; and no tattoos.     

A regional BOLO has been sent out and Mr. Jones was entered into NCIC missing person file.
