Manager Applications Up to 42 — 19 with Crucial Experience

Ten more applications have been received for the vacant Fernandina Beach city manager position, including four current or former city managers, town managers or county managers. The city has now received 42 applications – 19 of them with city, town or county manager experience. The citizens manager search committee emphasized that municipal management experience was crucial, among other important qualities. The deadline for applications is this Friday.

The four applicants with city management experience are:

Mark D. Mathes, City Manager Fellsmere, Fellsmere, Florida. May 2019 – Present.

Fellsmere, population of about 6,000, is part of the Sebastian–Vero Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Mathes, a licensed engineer, has worked for the city since 2009, when he was hired to lead the city’s community development and code-enforcement efforts.

Before that, Mathes worked for a private company, Lucido & Associates in Stuart as planning director and a comprehensive planning administrator for Martin County.
