Amelia Island Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Ms. Rebecca Mayle was in attendance at the June 1, 2021 Fernandina Beach City Commission (FBCC) Regular Meeting to accept the City Proclamation declaring June 14, 2021 National Flag Day and the week of June 13-19, 2021 as National Flag Week.

In presenting the Proclamation, Mayor Mike Lednovich reminded the audience that the Continental Congress  had adopted the Stars and Stripes as the nation’s official flag on June 14, 1777.

Reading from the Proclamation, he said, “Wherever our American journey has taken us, whether on that unending path to the mountaintop or high above into the reaches of space, Old Glory has followed, reminding us of the rights and responsibilities we share as citizens.”

Ms. Mayle thanked the FBCC for the Proclamation and reminded the audience that the DAR will conduct a flag retirement ceremony on Monday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Nassau County Fire Station #20 on First Coast Highway.  All are invited to bring their worn American Flags for proper retirement.
