Fernandina Beach Police identify S 13th murder victim

The Fernandina Beach Police Department along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are working a Homicide investigation that occurred at 406 South 13th Street unit B.

On Sunday, October 24, 2021, at approximately 9:05pm, Officers responded to the location in reference to a wellbeing check. Entry was made into the residence through an unlocked door. Upon checking the interior of the residence, Coleen Marie Potts who was 73 years old of Yulee, Florida was located deceased. Ms. Potts was housesitting for the homeowner.

This is an ongoing investigation, there is no additional information at this time.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the community. We always encourage the members of our community to take basic safety precautions that include among others, locking your doors, not inviting strangers into your home, utilizing outside security lights and surveillance cameras, not confronting suspicious people, and contacting the police if you feel uneasy about activity you may observe.
