“Billy” Star is Only Second Girl in the World

Julia Taylor is appearing as Billy in “Billy Elliot the Musical” (BETM) in Fernandina Beach, presented by the Amelia Community Theatre (ACT), from Feb 9-25.

Fifteen years old and a sophomore in high school, she is a native of Fernandina Beach. And yes, she is only the second girl to play Billy anywhere in the world.

Julia is no stranger to the Amelia Community Theatre (ACT) stage, having appeared in productions there since the age of 18 months. When she’s not performing, Julia enjoys creating choreography and hanging out with friends. She’s also involved with Little Women, an organization that promotes sisterhood and volunteerism. She is also a member of the ACT-ed Teen Board.

Julia has been a student for 13 years, studying tap, jazz, ballet and contemporary dance.

Julia says her favorite part of the BETM production is “working with so many new people and the opportunity to embrace a new and challenging role.”

With her debut, Julia became the 352nd actor to bring the role of Billy Elliot to life on stage in a professional, regional or community theatre production of the musical.
