Josh, played by Chris Twiggs, and Janet, played by Samantha Hilliker.

The romantic comedy “2 Across” opens at Amelia Community Theatre on October 2 to kick-off the theatre’s 40th season.

Written by Jerry Mayer, who also wrote for “The Bob Newhart Show” and “All in the Family,” the play tells the story of Janet and Josh, two strangers on a train who happen to be working on the same crossword puzzle as they travel from the San Francisco airport to a Bay Area destination.
.
Janet, played by Samantha Hilliker, is a psychologist and a pro at puzzles, traveling with an atlas, thesaurus, and mace, while easy-going, unemployed Josh, played by Chris Twiggs, is ready to give up when the puzzle gets too difficult.

As Janet reluctantly offers some encouragement and puzzle hints to Josh, they begin to relax and exchange life stories. They have 80 minutes before the final stop to complete the crossword puzzle, and perhaps change their lives.

Director Ron Kurtz says, “Bringing live theatre back to the stage has been a joyful experience. We have all had to discover new ways of doing things we previously took for granted. Although this play was written in safer times, it was eminently adaptive to the current pandemic situation. The result is a fresh new approach to a classic rapid transit love story!” The show is rated PG-13.
