Early afternoon today, a log truck toppled over after turning west on 8th Street. According to Deputy Chief Mark Foxworth, the log truck was owned by Paulk Timber Company of Woodbine, Georgia. The unidentified driver was at the scene as city street and fire rescue personnel cleaned up the area. Early indications point to an unbalanced load as the culprit.
ill tell you one thing they need to rail our wood these truck are dangerous ive seen a lot of accidents by log trucks in the 33 yrs i spent on and off the island
What every truck driver knows: loads shift when the driver makes turns at higher than save speeds. Good excuse, though, for blaming the load.
What are we waiting for? I have seen two loads of logs in the same place in the past years. There is a name for people that do the same thing over again and get the same negative result. I have also seen children on bikes at that exact spot waiting for the light to change as the trucks roll by. I agree with Lola White , it is time to figure out how to bring the logs in by rail safely.
