The Nassau County Council on Aging recently announced that Melanie Ferreira has joined the organization as the marketing and communications manager. Ferreira, a native of Fernandina Beach, has more than 30 years of experience in journalism and other areas of the communications field, including stints as a magazine and newsletter editor and a public relations practitioner for corporations in Denver, CO. In addition, she has an extensive background in economic development and served as the executive director of the Nassau County Economic Development Board from 2004 to 2007.

“Melanie offers our organization a variety of strong skills in marketing and communications,” said NCCOA Executive Director Janice Ancrum. “And, through her work in economic development and her many years of involvement with local service organizations, she also brings a wealth of contacts as well as a strong commitment to our community.”

Ferreira has served on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations, including the McArthur Family YMCA and is a long-time member of the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club where she has served as Public Relations Director for the past six years. She has strong ties to the community. Her grandfather, John T. Ferreira, founded what is now Century 21 John T. Ferreira and Son, Inc. in 1919. As a graduate of the University of Florida, she is an avid fan of all Gator sports.

In its 41st year of service to senior citizens, Nassau County Council on Aging’s mission is to improve the lives of older adults with a special focus on those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. We accomplish this through our Senior Life Centers, providing vital programs, services and compassionate care designed to improve the health, independence and economic security of Nassau County seniors and their families. We are partially funded by government grants, foundation funding and donations from private individuals.
