Peacock lovers flocked to the Nassau County Board of Commissioners meeting on January 13 to voice their concerns over the removal of approximately 30 peacocks from Amelia Island’s Scott Road neighborhood. Although Nassau County officials were not involved in placing the peacocks at an off island location, supporters wish to be assured that relocating peacocks will not happen again.

State Senator Aaron Bean worked with the Florida Wildlife Commission to solve various state issues to allow the peacocks to be returned to Scott Road neighborhood.  Many of the peacocks are reported to be home again.

During the January 13 meeting, the Nassau County Board of Commissioners voted to direct staff to meet with interested individuals to determine what action the County might consider to protect the peacocks.
