The Fernandina Beach Main Street program is celebrating its selection as April’s Winn Dixie Community Bag Program Beneficiary. The Winn Dixie Community Bag Program, which launched in February 2019, is a reusable bag program that provides community support.  The program’s goal is to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work.

Fernandina Beach Main Street was selected as the April beneficiary of the program by store leadership at the Winn Dixie store in the Amelia Plaza Shopping Center. Main Street will receive a $1 donation every time a $2.50 reusable Community Bag is purchased at this location during April.

“This kind of community partnership is what Main Street is all about,” said Arlene Filkoff, Executive Director of Fernandina Beach Main Street. “Every bag sold is a plus for the environment and delivers support for our mission of promoting economic vitality and preserving our city’s historic district.”

The Fernandina Beach Main Street Program kicked off in 2015 and was recertified in 2019, and is part of the National Main Street Program that includes more than 1,600 communities – large and small, rural and urban – in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  All Main Street programs share the same goal: strengthening communities through preservation-based economic development in older and historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.  It is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
